A sad decade with a crash of a Coronado due to a terrorist bomb and a hijacked DC-8 taken to Zerqa and destroyed along with a BOAC VC-10 and A TWA B-707. The Jumbo-jetliner made it’s first appearance and two B-747-200's entered service in 1970 followed a Year later by the Douglas DC-10-trijet, which ended the career of the CV-990. Zurich airport received its first new Terminal B which was linked with a train station opened in 1980. In 1978 Swissair decided to reshape its logo to the present rhomboid and a new livery with brown and red, dubbed: “the red robin with the chocolate-stripe around it’s belly” ! In 1979 all DC-10 aircraft lost their certificate of airworthiness following an AA-DC-10 accident. This led to the grounding of the backbone of Swissair’s fleet as well, fortunately there were still some faithful DC-8’s available to operate as backup during that time. The DC-9-81 was being built following an initial order from SAS, Swissair, TWA and American.
